The highly anticipated SUPERACE Multi-Day Ultramarathon made its long-awaited return to Kenting during the 228 holiday after a six-year hiatus. Spanning three days and two nights, this 109-kilometer journey brought together runners from over ten countries worldwide. Against the backdrop of Kenting’s stunning landscapes and challenging terrain, participants pushed their limits while exploring the beauty of the Hengchun Peninsula on foot.

A Grueling Course That Tested Athletes to Their Limits

The race kicked off at the East Gate of Hengchun Ancient City. On the first day, runners faced unstable weather conditions with intermittent spring rain, adding an extra layer of challenge. Over the following two days, temperatures soared, forcing participants to adapt to the intense heat while covering distances exceeding a full marathon (42 km) each day.

The meticulously designed course showcased the most iconic geographical features of the Hengchun Peninsula. On day one, runners braved the vast wilderness of Manzhou, battling fierce wind-driven sand and experiencing extreme climate shifts. Day two took them along the scenic East Coast Highway, with the Bashi Channel to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the east, offering breathtaking views of Kenting National Park. They also reached Taiwan’s southernmost point. The final day challenged participants with the high-altitude Hengchun Grand Traverse, where they climbed steep mountain trails to conquer Taiwan’s southernmost "Xiao Bai Yue" peak—Dashanmu Mountain.

The diverse terrain not only left a lasting impression on runners but also inspired them to capture every unforgettable moment with their phones. As the course wound through local villages, enthusiastic residents cheered the athletes on, showcasing the warm and welcoming spirit of Taiwan—a highlight for many international participants.

Japan’s Takuya Wakaoka Dominates the Race

Japanese ultramarathon sensation and writer Takuya Wakaoka proved his prowess once again. After an impressive performance in last year’s 250-km self-supported Gobi Desert race, he accepted the challenge of SUPERACE and delivered another extraordinary feat. Maintaining a steady pace of 5 minutes per kilometer, he clinched the overall championship with a remarkable total time of 10 hours, 41 minutes, and 47 seconds.

Takuya’s relentless determination amazed everyone. Even after completing each stage, he continued running laps at the camp, leaving fellow competitors in awe. "What kind of superhuman runner is this?" they exclaimed. Despite his literary and intellectual demeanor, Takuya admitted that the steep climbs of the Hengchun Grand Traverse were particularly challenging. Reaching the summit of Dashanmu Mountain, he was left in awe of Taiwan’s breathtaking scenery and expressed his eagerness to return for more running adventures.

Rising French Star Aurore Dacier De Biasi Wins Women’s Title in Her Multi-Day Race Debut

French commercial lawyer-turned-trail runner Aurore Dacier De Biasi made a stunning debut in her first-ever multi-day race. Though inexperienced with self-supported racing, she persevered despite shoulder abrasions caused by an unstable backpack and prolonged sun exposure. With the help of the event’s medical team and her unwavering determination, she completed the race in 12 hours and 7 minutes, securing the women’s overall title and ranking second overall among all competitors. Her impressive performance has set high expectations for her future in the sport.

Korean Duo Kyu Dong Park & Jinwook Jeong Claim Team Championship

The team championship went to Korea’s Kyu Dong Park, a triathlete, and Jinwook Jeong, a professional soldier. With years of international race experience, the duo traveled to Taiwan not just as tourists but as athletes eager to explore the land through running. Their seamless teamwork and competitive spirit earned them the victory, showcasing the strength and unity of Korean endurance athletes.

Taiwan’s Extreme Triathlete Lin Po-Jung Secures Third Place Overall

Facing fierce international competition, Taiwanese Triathlon athlete Lin Po-Jung carried the hopes of the host nation. In his first multi-day race, he achieved an impressive time of 13 hours and 8 minutes, securing third place overall and second in the men’s category.

Reflecting on the experience, Lin noted the stark differences between multi-day races and triathlon competitions. While triathlon athletes focus on individual speed, multi-day races foster a unique camaraderie as competitors share camp life each night. This deep sense of mutual support and friendship left a profound impression on him, fueling his passion for extreme endurance challenges.

Promoting Sports Culture and Giving Back to the Community

Returning to Kenting, the birthplace of SUPERACE, the event organizers partnered with Chen Chi-Jen—president of the Taipei Qixing Rotary Club and this year’s fifth-place finisher—to visit Yonggang Elementary School and Qiaoyong Elementary School. Together, they engaged students in sports activities, shared stories of adventure through running, and donated sports and educational supplies, encouraging young minds to explore the world through movement.

This year’s event was made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors including UP Sports, Enjoy Energy, and AKIWEI. Special thanks also go to the dedicated volunteers from Pingtung University of Science and Technology, as well as the guidance and support from local government agencies and organizations.
