Day 1:Mountain Town Trails × Coastal Terrain × The Beginning of a Soulful Challenge

 【Ruifang, Jiufen】

Departing early in the morning from Ruifang Town, we warmed up at the junction of town and suburban mountains, symbolizing the start of the race from the cultural settlements and everyday scenes, preparing to turn the page on the mountain trails of northern Taiwan and run step by step into the magnificent world of mountains and sea.

As the route climbed onto the Xiuzhi Mt. Trail, our pace gradually became heavier, but the view opened up. Winding forest paths and lush mountain scenery, with the morning light filtering through the shadows of the trees, let runners feel the unique breath of the mountains. After a brief upward test, we arrived at the Liulang Scenic Trail and Songde Park. During the day, we wandered through the steps and alleys of the old street, away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, savoring the tranquility of the ancient city. This place was once an extension of the cultural heritage of Jinguashi and Jiufen, where historical traces and sightseeing intertwined, carrying the memories of the pioneering era of northern Taiwan.

【Banping Mt., Diaoshan Historic Trail, Canguangliao Historic Trail, and Yangtingli Historic Trail】

After passing CP1, the route enters a more primitive challenge. Starting from the Teapot Mt. trailhead, ascend Banping Mt. to the iconic ridgeline of the Northeast Corner. Chahu Mt. and Caoshan Defense Road offer magnificent alpine views: the boundless Pacific Ocean on one side, the endless mountains on the other. The wind whips past your ears, and every step feels like standing between heaven and earth. This is a climb that demands extreme concentration, but the reward is unparalleled and magnificent scenery.

Then, we enter the Diaoshan Historic Trail, where dense shade and humid air allow us to reconnect with the primal power of the mountains. Mossy stone steps and the breath of the ancient trail lead runners through paths once traversed by our ancestors. This is more than just a cross-country challenge; it's a dialogue with time. Along the way, a rich ecosystem, from ferns to mountain birds, forms a green corridor in the northeast corner.

The route connects to the Canguangliao Historic Trail and the Yangtingli Historic Trail, and the sense of history deepens. Our ancestors once crossed mountains and ridges, and now you are recreating them on foot. The undulating slopes here will test your endurance and leg strength, but this is also the uniquely immersive experience of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail.

【Coastal Highway, Fulong】

As your energy gradually wanes and the course draws to a close, you'll embark on the Shuangao Highway and the Northern Coastal Highway, where the terrain begins to shift from mountains to the sea. The salty smell of the coastline and the sea breeze herald the race's transition from the mountains and forests to the ocean of the Northeast Corner. Traversing the forested bike path, the final stretch brings you to Fulong Beach, the most iconic of the Northeast Corner's coastlines. With sand, waves, and endless ocean views, you'll soon reach your first day's finish camp, completing the transition from the historic trail to the expansive coastline. This day will be a fusion of memories and sweat, a fusion of history and nature.

Day 2:From the coast to the mountains — crossing ridge after ridge, a full day’s journey through the tranquil heart of the Northeast Coast.

【Caoling Historic Trail, Taoyuan Valley, and Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail North Route】

Today, we no longer plunge into the mountains from the city's edge, but instead run directly from the coastal horizon to the rolling mountain ridges. We'll once again embark on the veins of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail, exploring the inner world of the mountains and forests. This will be our longest day yet, both physically and emotionally.

Shortly after the start, we enter the Caoling Historic Trail, a path over 200 years old that was once a vital transportation route in northern Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty. The stone path winds along the mountainside, and along the way, inscriptions like the "Heroic Town Manyan Monument" and the "Tiger Monument" bear witness to the hardships and determination of our ancestors who paved the way. The trail is steep, undulating, and often shrouded in morning mist. Running between damp and cool weather, we experience the interweaving of history and the tranquility of the mountains and forests, while also testing our physical fitness.

We then arrived at Taoyuan Valley, one of northern Taiwan's most iconic alpine grasslands. In the past, it was a place where nearby residents grazed cattle during the off-season, hence its former name, "Danniupu." The expansive, ridgeline landscape evokes a sense of being transported to another world. The soft grass beneath your feet is a stark contrast to the hard stone steps and ancient trails. Runners can feel the undulating grassy slopes resembling waves as they race. The breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and Guishan Island in the distance, the intertwining of sea and mountain, is both refreshing and a reminder of the long challenges ahead.

The route then gradually transitions into a wilder landscape. Entering Wankengtou Mountain, Lukuweijian, and the ridgeline system of Tamsui-Kavalan North Road, the trails are narrow and rugged, often interspersed with steep ridges and dense forests. Here, you'll test your control of footsteps and rhythm, your focus amidst the mist and gravel, and even your mental fortitude in the face of solitude.

【Tamsui-Kavalan Trail Middle Route】

Enter the core area of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail Middle Route system, connecting the important ancient trails of Pingxi and Ruifang, richly steeped in mining, settlement, and mountain trail culture. Unlike the northern route, which primarily serves as an official road, the middle route reveals more about the lives of our ancestors, including land reclamation and agricultural product transportation and marketing. It is a vital path imbued with the warmth of humanity and the marks of time. Trails such as Sandirang Mt. Historic Trail, Hongtan, Taiping Mountain, and Louzaicuo Ancient Trail offer traditional mountain trails, free from the hustle and bustle of tourism, preserving the tranquility of pristine mountain forests. The slippery, muddy gravel and dirt paths, moss-covered stone steps, and the murmur of water, chirping insects, and birdsong, allow one to experience the purest side of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail.

The clear stream of Hubaotan Lake, its waters shimmering across the valley, offers a moment of coolness. Take a rest here to recharge your body and mind before tackling the next challenging section. The track then enters rugged sections like the Bengshankeng Ancient Trail and the Dakeng Ridge Trail, featuring steep slopes and complex terrain that test both endurance and resolve. The Pinghu East and West Trails meander along the valley, where the sound of flowing water mingles with your breath and heartbeat, evoking a close connection between man and nature and a sense of undisturbed tranquility.

Entering the Youkeng Trail, we head towards Sandiaoling. The final mile of the day weaves through a crisscross of stone slabs and dirt paths. Along the way, the scenery, accompanied by the tranquil charm of the Pingxi Railway, finally brings us to the mundane world of everyday life. Congratulations! You've not only taken in the boundless azure of the Pacific Ocean, but have also penetrated the heart of the pale blue, engaging in a profound dialogue with yourself. Today's journey will become one of the most tranquil yet enriching chapters in your memory.

Day 3:Over the ridges and toward the sea — through hidden paths, running toward the final triumph of mountain and ocean.

【Xiaocukeng Ancient Trail, Buyan Pavilion, Jinzibei】

After two days of long-distance trials, the race concludes. Starting from familiar routes, the morning air is filled with the coolness of a mountain city, with tangled wild vines and dense shade trees. Ascending the winding stone steps, and joined by the 1-Day Trail Race runners, you're reminded that this will be a close-quarters, all-out challenge.

The steep stone steps of the Xiaocukeng Ancient Trail, the remains of high stone walls, and the winding dirt and stone path along the stream, along with the numerous abandoned stone houses and stone wall foundations, bear witness to the memories of the former gold mining industry, documenting the prosperity of the mining industry and the vicissitudes of its decline. Running along the Ruifang Highway, which winds through the mountains, one experiences the solitude and desolate beauty of the so-called "Lonely Highway." Arriving at Buyan Pavilion, one can simultaneously gaze upon the magnificent panorama of Shuangxi District and the mountain and sea scenery towards Ruifang. The magnificent view of the sea and sky blending into one here serves as a reminder of the challenging ups and downs ahead.

【Jinzibei, Sandiaolun, Shandiaoling Mountain, and Sandiao Dalun]

The mountain trail gradually descends into a more pristine and tranquil atmosphere. Jinzibei, Sandiaolun, Shandiaoling Mountain, and Sandiao Dalun, further into the heart of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail, gradually descending into a more pristine and tranquil atmosphere. Here, historical relics and natural landscapes intersect. Along the way, towering ancient trees, ferns, mountain palms, and other wet valley plants can be seen. The winding mountain path rises and falls, requiring focus and stability with each step, like a spiritual practice that tests patience and perseverance.

【Fuxing Mine, Houtong】

The route gradually turns downhill, and the Fuxing Mine comes into view. Once a symbol of Ruifang's mining industry, the remnants of tunnels and abandoned buildings silently tell the story of the industry's rise and fall. Houtong is not only famous for its coal mining culture, but also for its cat colonies. Catch a glimpse of a leisurely cat, and the atmosphere of the "cat village" creates a sharp contrast with your own running. While giving your all, you simultaneously experience the diverse forms of life.

The final stretch of the Ruihou Bikeway stretches gently, shaded by a lush stream. Refocus your breath and prepare for the final sprint. When you cross the finish line, you take away not only the glory of a completer but also the memory of your own adventure and the mark of your life.

A Life Changing Multi-day Ultra Marathon

https://youtu.be/HM8WQOdA3kM?si=RJfsHp4T954hG3ab

Q:What is a multi-days Ultra Marathon?

A:SUPERACE Ultra Marathon Stage Race is a concept created by extreme terrain explorer Kevin Lin who has participated in extreme marathons over many years. In an event totaling more than 100 km over 3 days and 2 nights, participants must carry their own food and water throughout the journey and make choices based on speed and stamina. The race is a challenge against wild terrain, animals, drinking water, weather, time, depleting stamina, and speed where difficult decisions must be made. Participants can also experience local tourism culture.

Q:What is Self-carry and Self-supply?

A:Throughout the course, participants must carry their own food (prepare a minimum of 7 meals, we suggest buying dried rice packets), water, sleeping bags, change of clothes, and the event’s mandatory equipment. Backpacks have an average weight of 6-8 kg (including water). The event organizer carefully inspects each participant’s equipment before each race and if violations are found, participants must purchase additional equipment locally. The event only provides camp sites, drinking water, hot water, and tents to participants at CP stations (approximately 1 every 9~12 km). Participants who violate rules will be punished with additional time or disqualification.

Q:What Types of Athletes Have Participated in SUPERACE Ultra Marathon Stage Race in the Past?

A:Participants of previous ultra-marathon stage race events mostly have full-time jobs and hail from various industries. SUPERACE does not place occupational restrictions or other requirements on race participants; this event is an international ultra marathon stage race and each race contains elite athletes from various countries (China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the U.S.) with 80% male and 20% female.

Q:How Many Days are Required for Participating in New Taipei City TK Station?

A:Participants need to arrive one day before the race, to join the report, equipment inspection, and pre-race briefing session. and leave at any time after the race has concluded. The whole race will lasts 3 days and 2 nights, and conclude around noon in day-3, after the awards and ceremony. Therefore, there are total 4 days to join this event.
